The November 7 Congressional Elections will Impact Hispanics

-

PHOENIX (By Jon Garrido, Hispanic News) November 1, 2006 — Historically, local, state and national elections have been powerful processes to raise awareness and increase social momentum. Voting is key to success for all who live in the United States.-

The greatness of the United States comes from the Equal Protection Clause of the 14th Amendment of the United States Constitution which Justice Douglas stated: “The conception of political equality from the Declaration of Independence, to Lincoln's Gettysburg Address, to the Fifteenth, Seventeenth, and Nineteenth Amendments can mean only one thing - one person, one vote.”

-

This is a double edge sword for it means those that vote, make laws for all. Thus, as the number of Hispanics increase in the United States, if Hispanics do not vote, hardships imposed on Hispanics will continue until the day Hispanics learn the power of the ballot box is supreme. It is because of this, we, American Hispanics, call out for all American Hispanics to join together and vote on Tuesday, November 7. If you are ineligible to vote because you are not an American citizen then you have a responsibility to become an American citizen for the sake of yourself, your wife and your children. If you can not vote, encourage your children who are eligible to vote.

-

For those that can vote, we encourage all Hispanics to join with Democrats to vote to replace Republicans in every location in the USA.

-

Never forget, it was Republicans with their power in the United States Congress that passed legislation making felons of all undocumented persons in the United States. Felons in the United States are forbidden to vote assuring Republicans would continue in power blaming all that is wrong in the United States on undocumented Hispanics.

-

Fortunately, many 2nd, 3rd, 4th generation American Hispanics are beginning to vote joining others who have similar views to make change in Washington D.C.

-

According to the Hispanic News Political Action Committee involved in political change across the United States by endorsing and supporting Democrats over Republicans, 15 Democrats across the United States will be elected to replace 15 Republicans. This is significant because with an increase of 15 Democrats, the United States House of Representatives will change in Republican leadership to Democratic leadership. Why is this important?

-

Republican Congressman James Sensenbrenner who represents a congressional district in Wisconsin will be replaced by Democrat John Conyers of Michigan as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, the Committee that wrote the Immigration Bill that was approved by the House component of the United States Congress criminalizing all undocumented as felons including those that provide help to the undocumented.

-

With new House Leadership, Hispanic Organizations such as the Hispanic News Political Action Committee will work to help draft new comprehensive immigration reform legislation favorable to undocumented especially providing for a path to citizenship. Again, why is American citizenship so important? It is because new Hispanic Americans citizens will be able to vote thus beginning to make significant changes in future years in education for our children, health care for everyone, better jobs, housing programs, social justice, and all of the other assistance now received by American citizens.

-

When the Democrats win, it will only have been with American Hispanic support and acceptable immigration reform will be expected.

-

In the next few days, the Hispanic News Political Action Committee will make 18 more congressional endorsements across the United States. We need to elect 15 Democrats to replace 15 Republicans. Hispanic News PAC predicts 33 Democrats will be elected in the House and 4-6 new Democrats will be elected in the Senate. 6 are needed to win the Senate. It will be down to the wire in the Senate.

-

In an attempt to stop Democrats from winning the Congress, the National Republican Congressional Committee has sent thousands of a campaign cards on one side portraying Osama Bin Laden. On the opposite side Middle East extremists are featured with machine guns and in the middle of the card are four Hispanic men and a woman jumping the border fence.

-

Republicans are trying to scare non Hispanic Americans with misinformation in the name of national security and the worse part, it is working among Republican voters.

-

In addition, television ads blame the undocumented for taking services costing billions of dollars across the United States.

-

When the Democrats win the November elections, it will be significant but Hispanics must continue each day to strengthen the American Hispanic voter base to assure equality and justice for all Americans which includes the undocumented continues to increase.

-

This is the primary reason to become involved in political campaigns at every level — school board, town or city, state and national campaigns to consolidate the national American Hispanic movement by increasing our efforts and hard work directed to achieving comprehensive immigration reform with a path to American citizenship and eventually, the best of all titles: American Hispanic Voters.

-

We now need to organize a movement to improve the quality of life for all Hispanics in the United States. We can not be passive for we need to become involved in the next milestone. The November 7, 2006 elections will be significant for American Hispanics but the next big one will be the 2008 presidential election.

-

The 2008 election will be the most important election since this country was founded due to economic, political and social issues in the United States of America and the rest of the world.

-

It is well known those opposed to immigration reform justify their contempt of undocumented by believing Hispanics do not want to assimilate as Americans. The most common example of non assimilation is Hispanics do not want to learn English and do not want to accept the USA as our country.

-

We must counter these false beliefs by exposing them as non truths. According to Hispanic News, Hispanics are quickly losing Spanish with each generation in the United States. Grandchildren of immigrants are likely to speak only English. By the third generation, only 17 percent of Hispanics speak Spanish fluently, and by the fourth generation, it drops to 5 percent.

I myself am a 4th generation American Hispanic. My grandparents spoke to me in English for they knew the importance of being accepted as an American.

-

Hispanic News challenges the perception that Hispanics resist learning English and that heavy immigration from Spanish-speaking countries threatens American identity.

-

As a commitment of the love and dedication to the USA, our country of choice, we ask all American Hispanics to wear a small U.S. flag on the left side of our chest above our heart.

-

Our small American flags will be an affirmation and commitment to join the democratic process of voting across America.

-

As American voters, we vow to become informed and support candidates who respect our dignity and who become our advocates to fight for our rights and future as American citizens.
